Bluehost vs Inmotion: Hosting Plans & Pricing
Both Bluehost and InMotion offer a variety of different hosting options and plans. Before we take a deeper look at what each of the plans offer, lets see what types of hosting each provider has.

Shared Hosting
Both providers offer 4 different shared hosting plans, and for the most part, they are very similar.
For every plan offered, both Bluehost and Inmotion give you:
- Unlimited bandwidth
- And a free SSL certificate.
These are both very common offerings when comparing most shared hosting providers.
And when you compare the most expensive plans for each, you see they both offer:
- Unlimited websites added.
- Unlimited parked and sub domains.
- Unlimited MySQL databases.
- A free domain name.
- Automatic daily backups
- And a dedicated IP address. (We really like this on shared hosting as this helps separate from you from all the other websites hosted on the same server).
Cheapest Plan Comparison
When comparing the cheapest plans for each, Inmotion wins out in nearly everything else.
- Inmotion allows you to add 2 websites to your account, compared to Bluehost allowing just 1.
- The storage offered by Inmotion is 10x larger than Bluehost, giving you 100GB of SSD space.
- Automatic backups are also included with Inmotion, and not with Bluehost.
- Inmotion gives you unlimited sub-domains, compared to 25.
- And finally, you get double the MySQL dabases too with Innmotion.
Bluehost does however win out on a few things.
- Such as an included free CDN. Speed really matters when loading websites, so we really like that this is included.
- You also get 5 parked domains allowed, compared to only 1 with Inmotion. But really, this won’t be a deal breaker for most people.
- And of course, the free domain name that everyone loves to much, is excluded in the cheapest plan from Inmotion. So this might be a deciding factor for some.
Storage Space
Both plans offer SSD Storage as standard, which we really appreciate. This really helps speed up the overall experience. This is something we would like to see all hosting providers offer as standard these days.
The cheapest plans for both saw Bluehost giving you only 10GB of storage space, whereas Inmotion gives you a massive 100GB. That’s a 10x difference.
But when you compare the other (more expensive) plans, Inmotion shared hosting offers unlimited SSD storage space! Comparing that to Bluehost, which limits the storage to 20GB, 40GB and 100GB respectively. This is a huge difference!
Pricing
The price is usually one of the most important factors when considering which hosting provider to go with. So let’s take a closer look at how it all breaks down.
Both offer great introductory promotional deals. Let’s use the cheapest plan for both as a comparison.
- Bluehost offers their cheapest plan for $2.95 a month, when you sign for 12 months.
- Inmotion’s cheapest plan is $2.29 a month, when you sign up for 36 months.
This is very affordable, but you need to consider the renewal cost too.
- Bluehost renews their cheapest plan at $9.99 per month.
- Inmotion renews their cheapest plan at $8.99 per month.
So what’s the big difference?
Let’s calculate how much the hosting will cost you after each year you continue to host your website.
We will again use the cheapest plan for comparison, and adding no extras.
Bluehost | Inmotion | |
---|---|---|
Total Cost Year 1 | $35.40 | $27.48 |
Total Cost Year 2 | $155.28 | $54.96 |
Total Cost Year 3 | $275.16 | $82.44 |
Total Cost Year 4 | $395.04 | $190.32 |
Total Cost Year 5 | $514.92 | $298.20 |
As you can see, there isn’t much difference after the first year, with Inmotion being slightly cheaper by about $8 total. No big deal!
But now jump forward to year 5, and the total cost difference is much more dramatic.
You’ll pay a total of $216.72 more with Bluehost vs Inmotion, over this time period.
This is because you will have been able to lock that introductory promo pricing in for 3 years with Inmotion, instead of just 1 year with Bluehost. Combined with the renewal cost of Inmotion being slightly cheaper by $1 a month.
It all adds up!
